Our Programs

Academic Advising and Success

We take a multi-pronged approach to helping our young people succeed in school because every situation and every child is different. Our services include helping youth research and apply to high school. We also advise on class selection. We offer guidance to those who are re-entering secondary school and alternative education programs for secondary school dropouts, entry into GED programs, or entry into postsecondary education. We also provide tutoring resources as well as workshops on skills and techniques necessary for academic success.

Career Counseling

AILF increases the job readiness skills of our young people and connects them to resources and employers. Support services include assessments to help with career decision making and job applications, access to professional mentors, and visits to work sites to explore specific careers. We also provide resume writing assistance, interview skills development, and workplace etiquette training

College Access and Persistence/Financial Aid

AILF helps young people take the journey from high school through college and beyond! Our support includes helping with academics, ACT/SAT prep information on admissions, financial aid, FAFSA, and the enrollment process. We also provide counseling and assist with scholarship searches and applications. In the spring, students have opportunities to visit colleges and meet peer mentors who share their experiences as first-generation college students. Along the way, there are workshops on leadership and life development skills – and when our get to campus, we offer even more support to them, steering them to resources and helping them navigate the college experience.

College Counseling and Campus Tours

AILF’s College Access & Persistence Initiative (CAPI) helps young people take the journey from high school through college and beyond! The program offers workshops on college readiness topics like financial literacy, how to apply, and connect with resources. Then in the spring students visit colleges and meet with peer mentors who share their experiences as first-generation college students.

Leadership Development Initiatives

AILF is excited to provide an opportunity once again for educators, community partners, youth, and families to dive deep into high-quality leadership development curriculum and inspiring advocate development. Participants will explore ways to improve community culture and develop youth and families’ academic and social-emotional skills.

Education Advocacy

AILF’s initiatives focus on training educational advocates to promote the development of an appropriate educational and community support service plan that identifies and addresses the child’s educational needs so as to create community and educational inclusion, functional skills and adequate measurable progress in the educational and community environments.

Economic Advocacy

AILF’s initiatives focus on economic advocacy services include support in repairing the effects of economic abuse through credit repair, budgeting and education. Employment Advocacy services include developing job interview skills, job search, and ongoing support to survivors in maintaining employment.

Racial Advocacy

AILF’s initiatives focus on systematic fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for all. Racial justice — or racial equity — goes beyond “anti-racism.” It is not just the absence of discrimination and inequities, but also the presence of deliberate systems and supports to achieve and sustain racial equity through proactive and preventative measures.

Health Advocacy

AILF’s initiatives primary focus is to Implement activities related to ensuring access to care, navigating the system, mobilizing resources, addressing health inequities, influencing health policy and creating system change are known as health advocacy.
